Dotty's Favorite Biscuits
this recipe calls for meat drippings/juice but you can also use water and bullion.
Heat oven to 325*
3/4 cup meat juices (bullion/stock etc)
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup powdered milk (you can buy in bulk at Winco)
1/2 teaspooon salt (I leave this out when I use bullion)
1 egg beaten
3 cups whole wheat flour (you can also buy in bulk at Winco)
(I also add shredded cheese sometimes)
In large bowl pour hot juice/bullion over butter and let melt.
Stir in powdered milk, salt and egg (liquid needs to becool enough so you don't cook egg)
add flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition . Knead 3 to 4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a very stiff dough. Pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into shapes. I have a cutter I got from a kit I picked up someplace. Along with this recipe. But as usual I've tweaked it.
Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 325 for about 50 minutes. I actually start checking earlier if I make them thinner than 1/2" This makes about 1 1/4 lbs...
If you add a little peanut butter(they won't get quite as crunchy)or what we call stinky cheese, (Parmesan) into the mixture, I bet you dog will go crazy just like Dotty does. I never measure I just eyeball it and make sure it doesn't get too sticky or dry. Then cut them out as usual. You can use cookie cutters too, or just make rectangles.
ReplyDeleteyou feed those to the dog? Im sure my husband would eat them....lol
ReplyDeletelol Michelle, Barry said he would eat them too..as long as I don't use pork dripping. Dotty does like them much better with the actual meat drippings rather than bullion cubes, but then who among us doesn't?
